As we are experiencing a pandemic at this time of year, so many people look forward to receiving a Christmas card. Opening one's mailbox and finding a thoughtful, personal piece of correspondence is more exciting than ever. Don't stop spreading that Christmas cheer. This is something you can do as a family some evening. You will feel good too, to know you have put a smile on someone's face.
Recycling day is Wednesday. Place recycling container curbside by 7 a.m. with all cardboard flattened. Remember, just because there is a recycling symbol on it does not mean it can be recycled. This includes egg cartons, pizza boxes, styrofoam and plastic grocery bags. Plastics with 1, 2, and 5 are accepted. Make sure all items are rinsed out and clean, so they do not contaminate the other recyclables.
Second Harvest Heartland and the Nutrition Assistance Program for eligible seniors, 60 years and up, will be held 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Truman. Pre-register at 1 (800) 365-0270. NAPS is a U.S. Department of Agriculture program funded through the farm bill.
Martin County Pork Producers Ambassador Scholarship is open to high school seniors and college students to age 21. The scholarship is available to any student whose family is part of the pork industry in Martin County and is pursuing an ag-related field. Deadline to apply is Jan. 12, 2021.
