Martin County dispenses more relief funds

FAIRMONT — On Tuesday, Martin County Commissioners approved a second round of County CARES Act Small Business Grants on Tuesday. The board had allocated $750,000 for small businesses within Martin County.

After the first round of grant awards, there was approximately $382,376 remaining of the funds. After the second round, $28,716 remains. Businesses that qualify are eligible for up to $10,000.

In another matter briefly discussed the recently passed Legislative Bonding bill, which was signed by Governor Tim Walz in October. Martin County was granted $2.1M for site preparation, pre-design, and design of the new justice center.

In order to follow the proposed Justice Center bonding language, Jonathan Loose of Wold Architects will be reviewing several items including:

q The status of pre-design and schematic design of the proposed facility.

q Survey work and other information needed for the proposed site, such as zoning requirements, utilities, and topography.

q Anticipated timelines for the pre-design and design phase.

q Establish a budget for the first phase.

In addition, the county received state bonding grant funds in the amount of $350,000 for the Martin County Veterans Memorial for the design, and to construct the memorial. This bond funding is through the Department of Veterans Affairs and has been referred to the Department of Administration for administration. Martin County is working in conjunction with the Veteran Memorial Committee in the continuing design and construction of the Martin County Memorial.

As there was no motion on the floor, there was no action to be taken.
