Sherburn Theatre still offering movies

By Shirley Skogerboe 3 min read

SHERBURN -- The Sherburn Theatre will show movies every other weekend in October, and hopefully longer, thanks to the generosity of some area businesses and organizations.

The community has come together to help support the local theatre by sponsoring movies. Sherburn Lions Club sponsored a movie recently, and Weiss Milling Inc. has stepped up to sponsor the movie "Hocus Pocus," to be shown 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and at 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon. The movie is free to the public, but donations to the theatre are accepted and would be appreciated.

Concessions, including popcorn, will be sold as usual.

If any business, individual or organization in the area would like to sponsor a future weekend movie, please contact Abby Shoen at (507) 230-3234 or Cheri Frank at (507) 848-6307. The cost to the sponsor varies depending on the movie, the delivery charge and advertising cost, but they say the price is actually quite modest. Your support would be so appreciated.

Our local theatre is an important part of our community. So many people in Sherburn have lots of special memories of going to movies here when they were kids, and then going with their children, and now taking their grandchildren. When my grandchildren come to visit one of the first things they ask is, "What movie is at the theatre?" Hopefully future generations will still have the opportunity to go to the movies right here in Sherburn.

The supper is scheduled to be held Nov. 6. If you already bought a ticket from a senior class member, hold on to that ticket until that date. To purchase a ticket, please call the high school or talk to a senior class member.
