Churches cancel services because of virus

CEYLON — As of this writing, Circle of Faith parishes are planning to hold in-person worship services. St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon has an 8:30 a.m. service Sunday as does Waverly Lutheran Church, north of Welcome. Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome has its Sunday service at 10:30 a.m.

Because of the upswing in positive COVID-19 tests in Martin County, the dual parishes of Our Savior’s Lutheran in Ceylon and St. Paul’s Lutheran in Wilbert have canceled in-person worship Sunday and Oct. 4. They will re-evaluate after Oct. 4. The congregation is reminded that they can view church services via video on the church’s website. Offerings can be sent to the church’s address or to Marv Schultze at P.O. Box 6, Ceylon, MN 56121.

Condolences to the family of Clair Schmidt Sr. A graveside service for him was held Friday. He will be missed.

There was to be a drive-through luminaria ceremony for the Martin County Relay for Life today but the committee decided to cancel it because of COVID threats in the county that are on an upswing. They canceled it for the year. The committee wants all the survivors and volunteers to be safe.
