Truman to offer busy weekend of garage sales

TRUMAN — Come to Truman to enjoy 19-plus garage sales from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Crafters will be located at Graf Park on both days. It is never too early to Christmas shop for those unique gifts.

Food vendors will be at Graf Park and NAPA with a variety of items. Take a break from cooking and see what they have to offer.

Masks and social distancing are requested.

Saturday is the day to fly your flag at half-staff to honor those we have lost to COVID-19. This is a request of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and is slated for the 19th of each month through the end of 2020.

Truman City Council will meet 5:30 p.m. Monday in the meeting room at the fire hall. Masks and social distancing are required.

Tuesday is National Voter Registration Day. To ensure you are eligible to vote, head to vote.org to register or check your status.

Martin County Sheriff Jeff Markquart recently announced the commencement of the Law Enforcement Scholarship Program for 2020. These scholarships are thanks to the coordinated efforts of the 87 sheriffs in the state of Minnesota. Application forms and statement of procedure are available at the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

Scholarships are only available to students currently enrolled in one of the following three categories: 1) Mandated POST Skills Program; 2) In their second year of a two-year law enforcement program; 3) In their third or fourth year of a four-year college criminal justice program. In order to qualify, students must have completed at least one year of the two-year program or two years of a four-year program. Students meeting these criteria are invited to obtain a scholarship application form from their local sheriff’s office or online at www.mnsheriffs.org.

The first-ever Minnesota Renaissance Festival on parade is a drive-through experience featuring more than 30 of your favorite festival goods. There will be entertainment, artisans and a chance to support Minnesota’s Renaissance tradition from the comfort and safety of your vehicle. Join the parade weekends Sept. 19 through Oct. 4, plus Oct. 2.

This event will involve a limited number of tickets. Tickets must be purchased online and will be sold for specific dates and arrivals times.

If you had a garage sale and have things you would like to donate to the Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota, the truck will be on your street Tuesday. You must schedule your pickup online at EFMN.org or by phone at (888) 609-2030. Attach a sheet of paper marked “EF” to your donation. Place your plastic bags or boxes curbside by 7:30 a.m. They will pickup, rain or shine, so package your donations for inclement weather.
