Fairmont woman facing felony counts

FAIRMONT — A Fairmont woman is facing felony charges in Martin County.

Crystal Ann Somnis, 38, has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon in the second degree, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

Somnis also is charged with assault in the third degree, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the report:

On Aug. 15, Fairmont police officers were dispatched to a report of a domestic assault at a residence in the 600 block of Burton Lane. A man advised he had been assaulted with a glass bottle and suffered a head injury.

Officers arrived on scene and made entry into the apartment. An officer observed the man, who had a significant amount of blood on his head and face. He was escorted out of the building to an ambulance.

An officer spoke with the man, who said he had gotten into an argument with “Crystal,” later identified as Somnis.

He said they had been talking about their children and Somnis told him he did not do anything for his kids. He said he asked Somnis what she does for them and she got up, walked toward him, picked up a beer bottle and struck him in the head with it.

The officer observed a significant laceration above the man’s left eye and another laceration on the left side of his head into his hairline.

The man was transported to the emergency room. The officer later learned the man required four stitches in his eyebrow and three staples in his forehead to close the wounds.
