Martin Co. West school year begins

SHERBURN — The school year at Martin County West is officially underway.

Students in grades 7-12 began Tuesday, and students in grades K-6 will start Thursday.

Students and staff will see each other in school and in-person for the first time in nearly six months. Everyone will be required to wear a face covering and practice social distancing as much as possible.

Our hopes and prayers are with all of you. May it be a healthy and successful year for everyone.

If you drive your child/children to school, you are asked to drop them off as close to the school as you can so they do not have to cross the street, if possible, and make sure they enter and leave your car on the curb side.

When picking up children after school, arrange to pick them up at a safe spot away from the congestion of cars/buses around the school.

If your child rides a bike to school, make sure they follow the rules of the road. Ride on the right side with traffic, not against traffic.

If your children walk to school, walk it with them a few times so you can find the shortest and safest route.

And if your children ride a bus, the best thing you can stress to them is to obey the rules and listen to their bus driver at all times. These drivers have a most important job to do, getting your child to school safely, and they do not need distractions and children who do not behave on their bus.

MCW Schools will limit visitors to its buildings this year. Any parents or guardians picking up students at school during the day will need to call the office when they arrive at the school and the student will be escorted outside.

Sherburn Theatre is once again open, but please check its website or Facebook page each week. They are offering movies on the weekends with showings at 7 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings, and also a Sunday matinee at 4 p.m., whenever possible.

Until further notice, the theater may or may not have a movie on any given weekend because of new movies continually being delayed.

With this uncertain schedule, if you have questions about times or movies being shown, you may call (507) 764-4045 or go to the Sherburn Theatre website.
