WELCOME — All the news I have is about upcoming events, such as the Welcome City Council meeting to be held 6 p.m. Sept. 1 at the City Hall.

If you would like to be on the agenda, please contact the city clerk prior to the meeting.

A time for public comments is always scheduled for the beginning of each meeting with no prior notice needed.

There will be a Red Cross blood drive in Ceylon from 1-6 p.m. Sept. 17. Appointments must be made to assure adequate social distancing. Masks should be worn as well. Call (800) 733-2767, go online to www.redcrossblood.org or text BLOODAPP to 90999.

Blood is needed more than ever now and summer is always slower for blood donations, so step up and give if you are able. Each donation may save three lives.

Area churches continue in-person services using social distancing protocols and there are video services for those who cannot attend.

St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon and Waverly Lutheran Church north of Welcome both have 8:30 a.m. services on Sunday.

St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Welcome has its service at 9 a.m. Sunday.

Area residents are welcome to join them.

My husband, Chuck, and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary Aug. 15, and would like to thank all those wonderful people who sent cards or greetings on Facebook or in-person good wishes. We appreciate the outpouring of friendship.

COVID sort of dampened the spirit, but your wishes helped us realize how much we are blessed to reach this milestone. Thank you.
