CEYLON -- Ceylon City Council this week discussed possible uses for federal COVID-19 relief funds. The city has received $24,465.
The fire department would like to buy overalls to protect firefighters from any virus-laden debris, as well as a washer and dryer for the fire hall to wash turnout gear and the coveralls.
Council members suggested a grinder to eliminate the pulp plugging the pumps when people flush non-disintegrating materials. They also suggested a generator to keep essential city equipment working in case of an emergency, such as the tornado that hit the Ceylon area in 2018.
Businesses that have lost money because of shutdowns during the pandemic also were mentioned.
Any decisions were tabled until the meeting in September. The city's plans must be reported by Nov. 13.
In other business, the council:
o Approved the Minnesota Department of Transportation purchase agreement for owners of property on Main Street, prior to the 2022 Highway 263 construction.
o Discussed properties that have been cited but are still not cleaned up. Council members discussed having authorities visit the properties. The city estimates there are more than 15 junk vehicles on various sites that need to be removed.
o Approved an easement for Jack and Joyce Schultz, pending approval from the City Attorney.
o Approved a liquor license for Legends II for the coming year.
o Discussed potential street repairs. Jim Plumhoff will make a list of possible streets to sealcoat and repair.
o Learned the next meeting of the City Council is scheduled for 6 p.m. Sept. 8 at City Hall.
