Blue Earth Area studies reopening options

BLUE EARTH — The Blue Earth Area School Board has set Aug. 24 for a meeting to vote on a base learning model for reopening school this fall.

In the meantime, Superintendent Mandy Fletcher announced the district will hold two virtual question-and-answer sessions regarding the BEA Safe Learning Plan.

“The principals, the school nurse and I will take part in these sessions,” Fletcher explained. “They will be held on Aug. 18, at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Community members will be able to log in and ask questions they may have concerning the Safe Learning Plan.”

The plan, approved by the board Monday, was to be made available for public viewing Tuesday. The document gives information on what steps are being taken in all departments to keep students and staff safe during the pandemic. It covers all three possible scenarios for the return to school: in-person learning, hybrid learning or distance learning.

In other business, the board:

o Voted to approve the retirement of Carma Sunken from the high school food service program.

o Voted to accept the resignation of elementary art teacher Erin Mikels.
