Martin County West offices reopening

SHERBURN — If you wish to be on the ballot at the general election for Sherburn City Council or mayor, you must file an affidavit of candidacy at the city clerk’s office in Sherburn before 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Also, anyone wishing to file for the Martin County West School Board must do so at the district administrative office in Sherburn before Tuesday. Four board members will be elected for four-year terms.

Federated Rural Electric’s “drive-in” annual meeting will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the Martin County Fairgrounds and from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Jackson County Fairgrounds, with a brief business meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Jackson Fairgrounds. You will be able to vote for directors, nominating committee members and by-law amendments at both locations.

Martin County West School offices will be open once again starting Monday. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

On Monday, the mandatory Minnesota State High School League meeting will be held. More information on that meeting will be on the MCW school website at www.martin.k12.mn.us

Martin County West parents were asked at the end of July to complete an online survey to assist with school planning for this fall. The questions on the survey focused on returning to school; health and safety procedures; transportation; food service; technology; and communication.

At this time, about 80 percent of MCW families are planning to send their children back to school in the fall.

If you have not completed the survey and would like to do so, you may find the link on the school district webpage and school Facebook pages. They welcome input from all MCW families.

A group of teachers, administrators, and school staff have been meeting and will continue to meet throughout August to finalize the MCW return-to-school plans.

Miles Fitzgerald and Payton Leiding were selected as the Martin County West prom king and queen at the outdoor prom held recently at the city park in Sherburn.

Flag football for students entering grades 1-3 was scheduled to begin in September. As of now, that program is pending.

Fox Lake Conservation League is holding a big bucks cash raffle with drawings being held at the annual membership meeting Sept. 7. You may purchase your tickets for the raffle from any board member, Sherburn Liquor Store, Legends II, Kortes, Old Northrop Bar or Granada Bar.

Regional Worship Center in Sherburn is continuing its community breakfasts each Monday morning from 8-10 a.m. at the church located at 2 Crossroads Drive in Sherburn. Donations accepted for the meal, and they welcome everyone.
