Welcome cleanup day coming up

WELCOME — Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Welcome Legion Auxiliary was not able to sell poppies this year. Selling poppies is a fundraiser for veterans.

The Auxiliary would like to thank everyone for their past support, and if anyone would like to honor and support the veterans this year they can send donations to the Welcome Legion Auxiliary Post 533, c/o Lois Nelson, P.O. Box 413, Welcome, MN 56181.

There will be a special meeting of the Martin County West School Board to review the findings of the June 8 public hearing on the Welcome school site at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday via teleconferencing. This can be livestreamed by visiting the school website. This is the same way the school board meetings can be accessed.

The spring cleanup day in Welcome will begin 8 a.m. June 27 on Campbell Street near the fire hall. Hometown Sanitation truckers will not help unload so please be prepared to unload items yourself.

Proof of residency is required. The proof may be shown through the driver’s side closed window.

Appliances will be picked up from curbs that day. For appliances, a sticker must be purchased by June 25 from City Hall for $10 (except for water softeners, the permit for which costs $15) and attached to the item. A list of appliances that can be picked up is available at City Hall. Call (507) 728-8740.

No garbage or hazardous waste will be accepted.
