Breakfast fundraiser slated

CEYLON — Ceylon Fire Department Relief Association will host a pancake brunch to raise funds for equipment from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday at Legends II in Ceylon. The menu will include pancakes, French toast, sausage, ham, scrambled eggs and juice. This is an all-you-can-eat fundraiser. The cost is a donation.

This coming Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, which is the beginning of the Lenten season. Area churches are scheduling mid-week services.

St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon will join the other Circle of Faith parishes for a joint service 6:30 p.m. that night at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome. Our Savior’s Lutheran Church members will join its dual congregation at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilbert at 6:30 p.m.

The next mid-week services will be March 4.

All area residents are welcome to join these churches for the special Lenten services and regular services.

There will be a Red Cross blood drive from noon to 6 p.m. March 2 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Welcome.

There also will be a blood drive on April 6 in Ceylon.

While it is snowy and cold, not much is scheduled and sometimes the news is sparse. As it gets warmer, the events are once again scheduled. So my upcoming events list is larger than the events scheduled for this month. Here it is:

o March 8 — Turn clocks ahead for Daylight Savings Time.

o March 10 — Township annual meetings and elections.

o April 6 — Blood drive in Ceylon.

o April 7 — Tuesday morning coffee hours begin in Trimont.

o April 12 — Easter holiday.

o April 18 — Ceylon Community Day.

o June 27 — Ceylon Summer Festival and all-school reunion.

o June 28 — St. Peter Lutheran Church 125th anniversary.

I am looking for signs of spring. A robin was sited north of Ceylon this last week. Can spring be far behind?
