Fairmont Math League team advances

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont High School Math League team has claimed the Section 2A title, giving it the opportunity to partake in the state meet in March.

Blue Earth Area finished in second place in the section.

On Monday, the Fairmont team participated in the final meet of the regular season in the Minnesota Valley Division of the State High School Math League. The meet was hosted by Fairmont High School. Fairmont finished in fourth place with 24 points.

Minnesota Valley Lutheran won the meet with a score of 47, while Mankato West finished second with a score of 43. Mankato East placed third at 38. Blue Earth Area finished seventh place with a score of 18.

The Minnesota Valley Division is made up of eight schools that compete in five meets throughout the season. Other schools in the division are St. Peter, Waseca and Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial.

Participants from Fairmont who do exceptionally well at each meet earn the title of “Mathlete of the Meet.” Blake Haugen attained this honor by scoring 5 individual points for the Cardinals.

Minnesota Valley Divisional awards were presented in a ceremony following the meet. Calvin Farrow from Blue Earth Area was recognized as an All-Divisional participant for placing 10th individually within the divisional scoring system.
