Truman man charged with abuse

FAIRMONT — A Truman man is facing a felony charge in Martin County.

Bill Lundin Jr., 48, has been charged with domestic abuse, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the complaint:

On Dec. 31, a Fairmont police officer took a phone call from a woman who said Lundin had sent her numerous text messages. The officer determined that there was an active order for protection prohibiting Lundin from having contact with the woman.

The officer responded to the woman’s residence, where she showed him the text messages. The messages showed the woman did not respond. Also at the woman’s apartment were two individuals. One said he had a 10-minute recorded conversation with Lundin that day, and that Lundin had stopped by to talk to the second individual.

Both individuals indicated Lundin had been messaging them and telling them to keep an eye on the woman. While inside the apartment, the woman received a message from Lundin asking why the police were at the residence.

Officers attempted to locate Lundin, but were unsuccessful. Lundin later called an officer and said he was in Mankato.

Lundin said the woman was messaging him by phone, and denied violating the order for protection. The officer told Lundin he needed to turn himself in, and Lundin said he would do so.

Throughout the night, the Fairmont Police Department received multiple phone calls from the woman and one individual advising they were getting messages from Lundin, stating he could see them cuddling in the residence. Lundin messaged them until about 4 a.m.

A check on Lundin’s criminal history shows a conviction for domestic assault in 2019, and a conviction for third-degree assault in 2018. Both are qualified domestic violence-related convictions.
