Duo facing drug charges

FAIRMONT — A Fairmont and woman are facing felony charges in Martin County.

Amber Grace Carroll, 38, and Gregory Martin Green, 49, have both been charged with drug possession in the third degree, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

The pair are also charged with drug possession in the fifth degree, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,00 fine.

According to the complaint:

On Dec. 6, a Fairmont police officer observed a vehicle that matched a vehicle owned by Carroll. The officer was aware that Carroll’s driver’s license status had been revoked, and proceeded to follow the vehicle. The vehicle pulled over to the side of the road and stopped.

As the officer passed, he observed that Carroll was the driver and proceeded to turn around and initiate a traffic stop. The officer called for assistance as he was aware that Carroll had a history of drug use.

As the officer spoke with Carroll, he noticed a “dugout” in the vehicle, a device that is typically used to hold marijuana with a one-hit pipe. The officer also recognized the male passenger as Green, who has been associated with past drug use. A second officer arrived and was aware that Green had a warrant out for him violating probation.

The first officer informed Carroll that he was going to impound the vehicle since she did not have insurance. As the second officer searched the area around the vehicle, he observed a plastic bottle that appeared to have been freshly thrown. The officer removed plastic bags from the bottle and observed a large amount of meth.

Carroll and Green were transported to the Martin County Jail, and a K9 sniff of the vehicle indicated there were controlled substances in it. A butane torch and other baggies were observed in the vehicle.

The vehicle was impounded and an inventory search revealed a meth pipe with white residue, and two prescription pills in a clear plastic container with no labeling. Carroll advised the officer she was living out of her vehicle and homeless.

After Carroll and Green were searched, an officer located a small baggie containing meth near the search area. The officer believed the meth came from Carroll as it was located after she was searched, and officers were standing around Green when he was searched.

The location where Carroll stopped her vehicle and the meth was thrown from the vehicle was within one block of the Southern Plains Alternative Learning Center School.
