Children can make pies

TRUMAN — National Pie Day is Thursday, Jan. 23, but if you are pre-kindergarten and older and would like to celebrate pie day, you must pre-register by Friday.

You will be making different mini-pies and different flavors to choose from. This fun class will be held 4:15-5:15 p.m. in the home ec room. The cost is $5.

Truman Lions Club burger bash will be 5-7 p.m. Saturday. Come to the Truman Community Building and enjoy a delicious burger, condiments, beans, chips and a beverage. If you would like to learn more about this organization, contact Dave Petersen at (507) 776-7922.

Lewisville Legion Auxiliary chicken supper will be 5-6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Legion. Take-outs are available.

Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, so all government offices will be closed.

No school for students at Truman Public School on Monday. There will be conferences from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday.

If you are pre-kindergarten and older and would like to squish, smash, push, pull, twist and cut, then go to the home ec room from 3:15-4:15 p.m. Tuesday and you can have all this fun with Play-Doh. The cost is $2.

Due to the MLK Jr. holiday Monday, Truman City Council will meet 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Council meetings are open to the public with a time for concerns/comments.

Second Harvest Heartland/NAPS will be 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Truman. This is for eligible seniors, 60 years and older. Pre-register at (800) 365-0270. You will receive a 30- to 35-pound box of food that is low in salt and sugar content.

Would you like to learn all about hawks, eagles and owls? Kids, kindergarten through fourth grade, can do this Jan. 28 through Prairie Ecology Bus Center if they register with Courtney or Chelsey by Wednesday. You will experience the amazing lives of these creatures through mounted/stuffed birds, their skulls, talons and feathers, and other hands on activities.

Order your sub sandwiches in support of the after-prom party fundraiser by Jan. 31. These sandwiches are made with a 10- to 12-inch poor boy bun, layered with sliced ham, turkey, American and Swiss cheese. They do not come with lettuce and mayo, so they freeze well.

Place your order with a THS sophomore, junior or senior. Judi Davis at (507) 236-9791 or Courtney Studer at (507) 327-6917 also can take your order. The cost is $5 each or 10 for $45. Checks should be made payable to Truman after-prom party.
