B.E. School Board picks officers

BLUE EARTH — Susan Benz and Frankie Bly have been re-elected chairman and vice chairman, respectively, of the Blue Earth Area School Board.

Stacey Beyer was elected treasurer while Sara Hauskins will serve as clerk.

At the school board meeting earlier this week, Benz offered her congratulations to Bly for his 20 years of service on the board.

In other business:

o Superintendent Mandy Fletcher informed the board about a work session with the Minnesota School Board Association scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Jan. 23.

o High School Principal Greg Ewing announced Emma Dahl and Jack Barke are the 2020 Triple A award winners.

“It was a tough choice; we had many fine students to choose from,” Ewing noted.

He also reported that 9th- and 10th-grade students will have an opportunity to tour local businesses Feb. 4.

“Blue Earth’s REV (Rural Entrepreneurial Venture) organized this outing and more than 20 businesses are involved,” he said.

o The board passed a resolution directing the administration to make recommendations for reductions in programs and positions.

o The board approved a memorandum of understanding with the Blue Earth Area Education Association that allows the district to offer incentives to teachers to take early retirements.

o The board voted to accept the resignation of accountant Heidi Olson.
