WELCOME — Well, they say tomorrow is the first day of winter. Ha. I think we’ve had quite a bit of winter already. Found a post on Facebook that said, “All I want for Christmas is spring.” That’s for me.

Anyone can celebrate winter by going to the cribbage tournament in Welcome at the Legion beginning at 1:15 p.m. Saturday. The public is invited. Have a fun winter afternoon.

This weekend is the last days to mail packages and cards for Christmas delivery going first class. Welcome post office hours are 8 a.m. to noon today and 8:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Area churches are planning Christmas Eve services.

Circle of Faith parishes are all having a candlelight service with communion. Trinity in Welcome and Waverly Lutheran north of Welcome are having 5 p.m. services while St. Peter Lutheran in Ceylon is having a 7 p.m. service.

St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Welcome will have a candlelight service with communion. Its service starts at 6 p.m.

Area residents are invited to join these congregations to celebrate the reason for the season, Christ’s birth.

Upcoming events in January include a 2020 Martin County Relay for Life committee meeting 5:30 p.m. Jan. 6 in the classroom at Mayo in Fairmont. Team captains are also welcome.

Townships will have elections and affidavits of candidacy can be filed with the clerks beginning Dec. 31 and continuing until Jan. 14. Think about serving your township with an office (supervisor, clerk or treasurer) in this grassroots capacity.
