Sherburn hires new City Attorney
SHERBURN — Sherburn City Council this week discussed the city’s 2020 budget and property tax levy. The budget will be adopted Dec. 16.
The council approved a proposal for Costello, Carlson, Butzon and Schmit Legal Services to provide attorney services for the city in 2020. The fee of $10,000 per year is the same as City Attorney Jim Wilson was paid. He recently retired.
In other action, the council:
o Approved the renewal of licenses for businesses in Sherburn.
o Declared the old blade from the snowplow as excess property so it can be sold.
o Asked city staff about fixing the lights on Main Street and the light at the crosswalk by the high school.
o Learned from city staff that the Cargill road was not plowed until it froze because it was too soft.
o Discussed the church property on Lake Street. No action was taken.
o Discussed making Lake Street to the high school on Fifth Street a school zone, with signs and a permanent crosswalk marking to help with safety. City staff will gather more information on the matter.
o Learned the next meeting of the City Council will be 5 p.m. Dec. 16 at City Hall.
