Veterans Day program Monday

SHERBURN — Don’t forget the CREST “Lunch and Learn” event beginning 11 a.m. today at the Senior Citizens Center in Sherburn. The program this month is about beekeeping and will feature Paul Harris of Harris Honey.

After the presentation, a lunch of beef stew, homemade biscuits with honey butter, bars and cookies will be served. Donations accepted for the lunch.

Everyone is invited.

They will serve grilled burgers from 6-8 p.m. tonight at the Sherburn American Legion Club. Stop down for a delicious burger.

Basketball registration for Martin County West students in grades 4-6 who plan to take part in the elementary basketball programs will be 6 p.m. tonight in the gymnasium at the high school in Sherburn.

The group will meet at 6:30 p.m., then break up into individual teams. Coaches will be there to hand out uniforms and schedules.

The cost to participate for the season is $35. Parents must bring a $35 check plus an $80 deposit. The deposit check will be destroyed when your child’s clean uniform is returned at the end of the season and your family provides two adult workers at one of the youth tournaments.

Dunnell Fire Department will hold its annual feather party 7 p.m. Friday at the Dunnell Community Hall. Come and play bingo for dressed turkeys.

Sherburn American Legion will host its monthly steak and shrimp supper from 5-8 p.m. Saturday. The public is invited.

There will be another opportunity for us to eat out on Sunday. St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn will host its annual fall dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. On the menu will be cheesy turkey, pulled pork, barbecues or brisket sandwiches, potato chips, salads, pies and other desserts.

Carryouts will be available.

Donations will be accepted. Up to $800 of the proceeds will help support a seminary student.

A crafting class will be held Nov. 10 and Nov. 23 at First Congregational Church in Sherburn. If you are interested and would like more details, call (507) 848-0784.

A Veterans Day program will take place Monday at the high school in Sherburn. Dick Zehms and Caroline McCourt will be the guest speakers. Martin County West vocal and instrumental groups will perform, and four junior high students will present essays that they have written. The public is welcome.

Red Cross bloodmobile will be in Sherburn from 1-6 p.m. Monday at the Regional Worship Center (across from Kum & Go). The need for blood is great, so if you’re able to do so, please stop by during those hours to give the gift of life.

Parent/teacher conferences for MCW Jr./Sr. High School students will be held 4-8 p.m. Nov. 14 at the high school. Staff will be in their classrooms.

Elementary conferences are scheduled 4-8 p.m. Nov. 12 and Nov. 14.

Parents are asked for an email or slip from your child’s teacher for a time to sign up for elementary conferences.

MCW drama department will present “Beauty and the Beast” at 7 p.m. Nov. 15-16 and 2 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Sherburn Theatre. Reserved seating is available. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students.

Concessions will be available and there will be a bake sale in the lobby with proceeds going to the drama department.

Dates to remember: Sherburn American Legion feather party is Nov. 15, and Sherburn Lions Club prime rib supper will be Nov. 23 at the Sherburn Legion.
