Trimont man allegedly sexually assaulted child

FAIRMONT — A Trimont man is facing felony charges in Martin County.

Terry Jay Schulz, 40, has been charged with two counts of criminal sexual conduct in the second degree. Each charge carries a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison and a $35,000 fine.

According to the complaint:

On Sept. 20, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office received information from Des Moines Valley Health and Human Services of Jackson regarding a report of alleged sexual abuse of a child by Schulz. Based on that report, the Sheriff’s Office investigator interviewed a 15-year-old male.

During the interview, the teen disclosed that Schulz had touched him inappropriately in ways he was not comfortable talking about. The teen said the first time this had happened was at Schulz’s apartment along Burton Lane in Fairmont. The teen said he was 10 years old at the time.

The teen also described incidents that occurred at Schultz’s apartment in Trimont. The teen said he told Schultz to stop and would go to a friend’s house to escape, as he did not feel safe at Schultz’s house. The teen also explained that he would wait to go to sleep until Schultz had gone to sleep.

The teen explained that the last time this happened was when he was 14 years old. Schultz had a significant relationship with the teen as defined by state law.
