Truman Fire and Rescue offers meal

TRUMAN — Truman Fire and Rescue Department is observing Fire Prevention Week with an open house and meal from 5-7 p.m. tonight at the Fire Hall. This is a great time to tour the hall, see their equipment and meet the dedicated volunteers.

If anyone has any perennial plants they would like to donate to the Truman mini golf course, please call Laurie Sherman at (507) 236-5204.

Lewisville Fall Festival begins 8 a.m. Saturday with a breakfast and bake sale sponsored by Legion Auxiliary Unit 561 at the Lewisville American Legion.

Then, from 9 a.m. to noon, is the fall coloring contest for children and adults, with supplies provided and cash prizes.

Hair braiding, hair coloring and face painting begins at 10 a.m. Also at 10 a.m. is the craft vendor show in the former City Hall.

Food will be available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A pumpkin and scarecrow judging contest for kids and adults will be held at 11:30 a.m. Register your painted or carved pumpkins between 9:30-10:30 a.m.

The kids pedal tractor pull registration for children, ages 4-11, will begin at 1 p.m. with pull time at 1:30 p.m. This pull is sponsored by Lewisville Legion Post 561.

Rounding out the festival are the free pony cart rides from 1-3 p.m.

Truman Public Schools community fun night is Tuesday. There will be a book fair from 4:30-6:30 p.m. An all-school open house will be held from 5-7 p.m. There will be food served, a silent auction, bake sale and a prize raffle.

This event is a fundraiser for early childhood programs and the elementary school. If you would like to help by donating to the silent auction or raffle, please bring those items to the THS office.

Wednesday is recycling day. Have your container curbside by 7 a.m. with all cardboard broken down and placed inside your recycling container.

There is no school for Truman Public School students Wednesday, Thursday and Friday due to MEA.

Love the look of barn quilts? If you would like to make a 12-by-12-inch barn quilt that is mounted on a stake, you need to register by Wednesday. This class for high school students through adult will begin 5:30 p.m. Oct. 23. The cost is $25 and is led by the Prairie Ecology Bus Center.

o Truman Lions Club Burger Bash will be Oct. 19. (shed raffle winner to be drawn)

o Registration for rug painting is due by Oct. 18. The class will be 3 p.m. Oct. 27 at a cost of $30.
