Event in Sherburn to honor cancer survivors

SHERBURN — The monthly steak and shrimp fry will be 5-8 p.m. Saturday at the Sherburn American Legion. The public is invited.

As part of Homecoming Week last week at Martin County West, Payton Anderson and Emily Matejka were crowned homecoming king and queen. Carson O’Connor was named prince and Logan Kosbab was named princess. Congratulations to these MCW seniors and to all the candidates.

Zion Lutheran Church in Springfield invites all women of the LCMS to join them for food, fellowship and service on Saturday. Registration begins at 9 a.m. The meeting and service projects will get underway around 9:30 a.m., with lunch to follow.

A free will offering will be taken to support MN South District Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.

Cancer Awareness Night will be held during the volleyball match Oct. 15 at the MCW Trimont gymnasium.

Cancer survivors will be recognized during the “Cancer Walk,” which will be held between the junior varsity and varsity matches.

There will also be a silent auction of donated items as well as many baked goods available for purchase. Monies raised will be used locally in the fight against cancer.

Come out to watch volleyball and also to give what you can toward this cause.

A 55+ drivers education four-hour refresher class will be held 5:30-9:30 p.m. Oct. 30 in the library at the MCW Elementary School in Trimont. The deadline to register is Oct. 21. The fee for the class is $22. To register, call MCW Community Education at (507) 764-2336.

Regional Worship Center in Sherburn is hosting breakfast from 7-9 a.m. each Monday morning. The cost for pancakes with syrup, eggs and coffee is a donation. Everyone in the area is welcome to join them.

Tuesday morning coffee hours for October will be 8:30-10 a.m. at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn. All are invited for coffee, baked goods and a chance to visit.

Be sure to get your tickets in advance for the Sherburn Lions Club prime rib supper that will be held Nov. 23. They may be purchased from any Lions Club member, at Bank Midwest in Sherburn, Amborn Lumber in Sherburn, or the Photo Press in Fairmont. They only have 275 tickets to sell so get your tickets early.

Ruby’s Pantry will be in Sherburn once again from 6-7:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Regional Worship Center.

St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn takes donations for the food shelf on the first Sunday of every month. You may bring your donated items and place them in the front entrance to the church. There is always a need for food items, household items and personal care items.
