Fairmont student serves state youth

FAIRMONT — Minnesota Alliance With Youth has announced that Weston Loughmiller of Fairmont has been selected to serve on the Minnesota Youth Council for a third year.

The Youth Council is a collaboration of youth and adults working together to empower and mobilize young people across the state to exercise their voices, opinions and ideas and take action on issues affecting youth.

Loughmiller, a junior at Fairmont High School, first heard about the council while browsing the internet, looking for a way to get more involved.

To contact Loughmiller directly, email youthvoice@mnyouth.net, with “Weston Loughmiller” in the subject line.

During the first half of the year, youth representatives act as advisers to the Minnesota Department of Education. They also work with other state agencies, including the Department of Health, to ensure all youth have access to clean water, air and equal opportunities.

During the last half of the year, youth representatives work with the State Legislature.
