Wine, chocolate return to Red Rock

FAIRMONT — Anyone who enjoys wine, chocolate or entertainment should attend the second annual wine and chocolate sampling event at the Red Rock Center for the Arts in Fairmont on Wed. Aug. 21 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Red Rock director, Sonja Fortune, shared that the event is free admission. There will be live background music by Stuart and Lori Smart. About 10 arts and craft vendors will be set up outside and there will also be art demos and rock painting. The community art show is currently on display with a variety of art pieces by about 20 local artists.

“There is a small fee for what we’re calling station stops,” Fortune said.

There are six stations. People can pick and choose what stations they want for $4 each, or all of them for $20.

Stations include a wine and chocolate sampling with wine from Indian Island Winery and Round Lake Winery and a homemade chocolate buffet featuring bonbons, fudge and other fancy chocolates. There will also be a chocolate fountain with fresh fruit.

“Last year a lot of people wanted to get a full wine pour, so this year we’re offering a wine bar. If people don’t want to just sample, they can get a glass of wine and enjoy the chocolate buffet,” Fortune said.

Fortune said there will be two make and take project stations. One is being done by the Rustic Board from Blue Earth. The project will be making a small wooden sign. The other project is done by Tree Ring Art, out of rural Truman. The project is acrylic paint pouring.

Another station is a pulled pork sandwich meal including coleslaw and chips.

“At $4 per station or $20 for everything, we feel like it’s a pretty inexpensive event,” Fortune said.

Even if people aren’t looking to spend any money, Fortune said they can still enjoy the music and view the art work and dabble in rock painting.

“It’s a really inexpensive and fun way to introduce people to the beauty and sophistication of the Red Rock and all the opportunity that we offer. We have a classy, intimate setting and we want to provide ways for people to be social, get involved and feel welcome,” Fortune said.

Last year about 200 people attended the event, which was the first time it took place. Fortune said many children were also in attendance as it is a fun event for people of all ages.

“There’s still so many people who don’t know what we’re doing so it’s a great way to show them what we have to offer,” Fortune said.

The event will happen rain or shine. August has been the Red Rock Center’s annual membership drive, but on Sept. 13, the concert series kicks off with a performance by The Lowest Pair.
