Martin Co. West school year draws near

SHERBURN — Ruby’s Pantry food distribution will take place 6-7:30 p.m. Monday at the Regional Worship Center (across from Kum & Go) in Sherburn. There are no financial or residency restrictions for this distribution. The cost for a generous amount of food is $20. You will need to bring two boxes or laundry baskets to hold the food. Registration begins at 5 p.m.

The Jackson Theatre in Jackson will show a free movie, “Summer Snow,” at 7:30 p.m. Monday. Everyone is invited to come see this movie.

Martin County West school year will get underway with registration Aug. 19-23 at the individual school buildings. Hours will be 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day except Aug. 21, when the buildings will be open for registration until 7 p.m.

Seventh-grade orientation — “Transition Day” — will be 5-7 p.m. Aug. 28.

School, for students in grades 7-12 will begin Sept. 3, while students in grades K-6 will start Sept. 5.

Parent/teacher conferences for MCW students, K-6, will be Sept. 3-4.

Youth for Christ of Martin County is taking orders for Colorado peaches. A full crate of peaches costs $40, while a half-crate goes for $20. Please call (507) 235-6016 to pre-order.

The pickup date will be Aug. 29 at the Lighthouse, 213 Downtown Plaza (next to Jake’s Pizza), in Fairmont.

The city of Sherburn will trim any branches that are hanging low enough over the streets that could get in the way of city maintenance equipment. If you have low-hanging branches, you could trim them yourself before the city crew has to do so.

Take your friends and neighbors or join other friends and neighbors this month for Tuesday morning coffee from 8:30-10 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn. All are welcome.

AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) meetings are held 8 p.m. each Tuesday at the Sherburn Senior Center, 21 E. First St., in Sherburn. Those attending should enter through the east door on Manyaska Street.
