SHERBURN — Everyone is invited to an open house retirement recognition for Bob Roesler that will be held at 4 p.m. today at Keck Park, just north of the Welcome School.
Bob was a vocational ag instructor and FFA adviser for 18 years at Sherburn High School. He then went into farm business management at Minnesota West Community and Technical College, where he has been for the last 32 years.
Bob and his wife, Marlene, are Sherburn residents. His office with Minnesota West has been at the Welcome School building.
Cookies and lemonade will be served in honor of his retirement, and everyone is welcome to stop by to wish Bob well and to thank him for over 50 years of service in the field of ag education.
Grilled burgers with all the fixings will be served from 6-8 p.m. tonight at the Sherburn American Legion. Everyone is welcome.
Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre with some young local talent will present “Alice in Wonderland” this weekend at the Sherburn Theatre. They have been rehearsing all week for the show. Performances will be held at 7 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday. Donations will be accepted at the door. Everyone is invited.
A downtown ribbon cutting celebration will take place July 23 in Sherburn. It will be held at 6 p.m. that night in Pocket Park, just south of the Old Alley Quilt Shop.
Past and present mayors will cut a ribbon to celebrate projects that have been done to help beautify Main Street. Projects include new street lights, new planters, painting of buildings, new benches and a beautiful new “Sherburn” mural. More projects are being planned.
Brats, chips, cookies and water will be served free of charge to show appreciation to those people and businesses that have contributed to the beautification of downtown Sherburn. All are welcome.
Friendship Club will visit the Okoboji Summer Theater on Aug. 9 to see a matinee performance of “Mamma Mia.” Those interested in attending may call St. John’s Lutheran Church at (507) 764-5312. The cost is $22, to be paid at the ticket office.
A class on the basics of dog obedience training will be held 5:45-6:45 p.m. Thursdays, Aug. 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29, at Martin County West Elementary School in Sherburn. Dogs must be at least 3 months or older and the dog trainers must be at least 12 years of age. Gary Hamman will be the instructor. The deadline to register for is July 22. The local CREST organization is seeking additional volunteers. CREST has been helping people in Martin County who need assistance for more than 20 years. They are currently receiving many new requests for services and need additional volunteers to supply the needed help.
Examples of help that you might be able to give include: light housekeeping chores, making a meal for someone recovering from surgery, transportation for doctor’s appointments, trips to the grocery store or pharmacy, respite care to provide a few hour’s relief for someone taking care of a loved one, or visiting in person or telephone calls to someone who is experiencing social isolation.
If you feel you could give even a few hours a month, call the CREST office today at (507) 235-3833. They can give you more information or send you an application.
Tuesday morning coffee hours for July are being hosted by St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon.
