Woman facing felony count

FAIRMONT — A St. James woman is facing a felony charge in Martin County.

Heidi Louise Thomas, 33, has been charged with drug possession in the fifth degree, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the complaint:

On June 8, a deputy with the Martin County sheriff’s Office was dispatched with other officers to a residence in rural Martin County on a report of a suspicious vehicle. The complainant indicated a vehicle had been parked in that location for hours.

Deputies arrived on scene and observed a 2005 Dodge Caravan parked with two occupants, a male and female. The male identified himself and it was determined he had a warrant for his arrest out of Watonwan County. The female, Thomas, gave officers a false name.

The deputy transported the male to the Martin County Law Enforcement Center and then returned to the scene. The deputy was advised that Thomas was continuing to use the false identity and saying she was homeless. She denied having a license or that she had ever been in trouble, saying she spent most of her time in Clay County, Iowa.

The deputy contacted the Clay County Sheriff’s Department and was advised that they did not have the false identity in their system.

When asked if she had a Facebook page, Thomas denied having one and also provided a phone number that was not in Martin County’s system. The deputy determined that, under the circumstances, he would transport her to the Law Enforcement Center to positively identify her.

At the jail, dispatch found the female’s profile on Facebook and she was positively identified as Thomas. Dispatch ran that name and discovered she had two arrest warrants out of Blue Earth County.

The deputy sat down with Thomas and advised that he knew she was using a false identity. Thomas admitted her true name and said she lied because of the warrants.

At impound, deputies began to inventory the vehicle. During the search, officers discovered a glass bowl and a homemade glass pipe. The pipe appeared to be two glass pipes held together by black tape. The inside of the pipe field tested positive for meth.

A check on Thomas’s criminal record shows three prior convictions for controlled substance offenses.
