Faribault County plans summer roadwork

BLUE EARTH — Construction season is upon us and Faribault County commissioners spent much of their meeting Tuesday dealing with upcoming road projects.

One of the first items was the approval of a conditional use permit for Croell, Inc. and Neal Mensing. Their proposal is to convert 5 acres of farmland into a concrete batch plant during construction seasons for the Interstate 90 project between Blue Earth and Fairmont.

The board approved the permit, with the added condition of including a development agreement.

Continuing with road matters, the board approved the low bid from Ulland Brothers, Inc., for overlays on County Road 12, County Road 15 and work to be done in the Blue Earth Industrial Park. The cost is $2.86 million.

In other business, Mark Daly, Public Works director, presented bids for purchasing a new half-ton pickup. The board approved a low bid of $31,496 from Marthaler Dodge of Worthington.

In other matters, the board:

o Approved hiring Ellen Eckhardt as a secretary in the Veterans Services Office.

o Accepted the resignation of William Goo from the Public Works Department effective in July.
