Greenwing event slated in Sherburn

SHERBURN — Grilled hamburgers with all the trimmings will be served 6-8 p.m. tonight at the Sherburn American Legion. The public is always welcome.

CREST is offering a “Lunch and Learn” event 11 a.m. today at First Lutheran Church in Trimont. The program will feature Jamie from the Trimont Greenhouse who will share some of her container gardening ideas for flowers, herbs and vegetables.

Following the program, a lunch of grilled brats and burgers will be served. Donations are welcome to help defray the cost of the meal.

Anyone in the area interested in gardening is invited to join them for this opportunity to learn, have lunch and enjoy a time of socializing.

A baccalaureate service for graduating seniors of Martin County West and their parents will be held 7 p.m. tonight at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Dunnell.

The service will be a Christianity-based interdenominational service with band and choir selections by Martin County West students.

The community is invited.

A Southern Minnesota Ducks Unlimited Youth Greenwing event will be held Saturday at Martin County West High School in Sherburn. The doors will open at 9:30 a.m.

Activities will begin at 10 a.m. and continue until 1 p.m.

Ducks Unlimited Greenwing legacy members can attend free of charge. Cost for all other youth is $15. The ticket includes door prize, meal and a DU Greenwing membership.

Parents may attend this event free of charge.

There will be games, raffles and educational activities for all ages.

Martin County West senior honor students will be recognized at a banquet 2 p.m. Sunday at the Sherburn American Legion.

The end of the school year at MCW always brings an opportunity for elementary students to go on special field trips. Today, sixth-graders will go to the state Capitol and Fort Snelling in St. Paul, while fifth-grade students will go for a camp day at Camp Foster in East Okoboji, Iowa.

Last Friday, the fourth-grade students had the opportunity to go to Kirby Science Discovery Center at the Washington Pavilion in Sioux Falls.

The third-graders will go to the Butterfly House & Aquarium in Sioux Falls on May 29.

If you’re interested in having a rummage sale during the citywide rummage sale days this year, you’re asked to contact Sheila Yurcek at the West Martin Weekly News if you want your name and address on the list of sales. Citywide rummage sale days are June 13-15 during the Sherburn Holiday Festival.

Don’t forget that coffee hours for the month of May will be held 8:30-10 a.m. each Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome. Everyone is welcome.
