Man facing drug charge

FAIRMONT — A Fairmont man is facing a felony charge in Martin County.

Grant Aaron Roesner, 19, has been charged with drug possession in the fifth degree, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the complaint:

On March 26, a Fairmont police officer observed a vehicle in the parking lot of Sylvania Park at 11:18 p.m. Knowing the park closes at 11 p.m., the officer waited to see if the vehicle was leaving. The vehicle did not leave, so the officer drove up to it.

The officer observed four people sitting in the vehicle. The female driver opened the door slightly and the officer immediately smelled a strong odor of marijuana. The officer asked the driver if there was any more marijuana in the vehicle and she said she did not have any.

The officer asked the passengers to put their hands on the headrests or the dash, and two male passengers in the back began making furtive movements.

As the officer identified the driver, he saw a male passenger keep putting his hand down. The officer went to the rear passenger side and asked the male to exit the vehicle for officer safety. The male exited and the officer observed a marijuana cigarette in plain view on the passenger seat.

Another officer arrived to assist and made contact with one of the male passengers, later identified as Roesner.

The first officer located a vaping pen on the rear passenger seat containing a wax type substance inside of it. The substance later tested positive for marijuana. When the officer approached Roesner holding the vaping pen, Roesner admitted it was his.

Roesner was placed under arrest.
