Local favorite, Edie’s Restaurant suffers break-in

FAIRMONT – Fairmont police are investigating a break-in that occurred at Edie’s Restaurant along First Street downtown.

Police were called to Edie’s at 6:23 a.m. Sunday after an employee reported the incident. Police say a possible forced entry resulted in a theft of an undisclosed amount of cash and property.

The incident remains under investigation, so further details are being withheld. Police encourage anyone with any information to contact them on their non-emergency number at (507) 238-4481.

Fairmont Police Sgt. James Tietje said police often rely on the public to help solve crimes of this nature, so those who have seen or heard anything suspicious may have valuable information.

Edie’s Restaurant reported on its Facebook page Sunday that it had been burglarized overnight. It said it would be closed today to “straighten things out” and then reopen Tuesday.

Edie’s is something of a local institution, where people meet regularly for breakfast, lunch or coffee and to discuss the issues of the day. According to its Facebook page, Edie’s has been operating since 1973.
