Public can pick top businesses

FAIRMONT — Voting for the Fairmont Area Chamber of Commerce’s top businesses for 2018 will end at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Four business are nominated in each of four categories: large business with 15 or more employees, small business with fewer than 15 employees, new business less than three years old and non-profit.

“Chamber members nominated the businesses, but anybody can vote,” said Kandi Menne, Fairmont Area Chamber communications director. “The community is part of the businesses so everybody should have the opportunity to vote too.”

People can vote by visiting the Chamber’s website, www.fairmontchamber.org, and click on the “Vote for Business of the Year 2018” in the upper center of the page.

Nominees for large business are Devenish Nutrition, McDonald’s, Profinium Inc. and Valero Renewables.

Small business nominees are Culligan Water Conditioning, Dan’s Appliance and TV, Minuteman Press and Sweet Financial Services.

New business nominees are Fairmont Butcher Block, Graffiti Corner, Sunshine Suzy LLC and Supreme Lending.

Nominees for non-profit are Fairmont Rotary, MRCI, Martin County Historical Society and Vista Prairie at Goldfinch Estates.

All the candidates are current Chamber members that were nominated by Chamber members who live or work in Martin County.

The winners will be announced at the Fairmont Area Chamber’s annual banquet at 6 p.m. Feb. 22 at the Holiday Inn. Guest speaker will be author and award-winning sales expert Ursula Mentjes.

The banquet is open to non-Chamber members also, but reservations are required. The link to register for the banquet is attached to the voting link, and reservations must be made by Tuesday.

“As a non-profit, we are required to have a meeting every year, but we make it into a festive event with a guest speaker and camaraderie,” Menne said. “We’ve made efforts with the banquet to make it fun. We’ve got such a great group of nominated businesses so that should generate some extra fun.”
