Man facing felony drug count

FAIRMONT — A Fairmont man is facing a felony charge in Martin County.

Anthony Allen Kamish, 26, has been charged with drug possession in the fifth degree, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the complaint:

On Nov. 23, a theft occurred at Shopko in Fairmont. It was reported that during the theft, Kamish had been driving a four-door green Toyota Camry, registered to Kamish’s ex-girlfriend. Officers were attempting to locate the vehicle.

On Nov. 30, an officer observed a parked green Toyota Camry. Through the course of the morning, another officer patrolled the area to see if the vehicle had been moved. The officer later observed the brake lights activate on the Camry, which did not signal its entrance onto the roadway prior to entering the driving lane.

The officer initiated a traffic stop and approached the driver, recognizing him as Kamish from prior police contacts. The officer observed a knife clipped to Kamish’s right pants pocket and instructed Kamish to put the vehicle in park and take off his seatbelt. Kamish did not comply.

The officer unlocked the driver’s door and told Kamish not to reach for the knife. Kamish was pulled from the vehicle and placed in handcuffs.

The officer observed a bag of meth in the vehicle, sitting on the center console. The officer asked Kamish about the bag and Kamish replied he did not know as it was not his car.

Another officer arrived on scene and proceeded to search Kamish, removing a syringe from Kamish’s coat pocket. The substance in the bag field-tested positive for meth. The first officer then checked a sunglasses case that had been located in Kamish’s pocket.

Inside the case were multiple bags containing meth residue, and one bag containing a rock of meth. Another bag of meth was located under the driver’s seat, as well as a meth pipe between the passenger seat and center console.

Kamish was taken the Martin County jail booking room, where he was read his rights and indicated he understood.

Kamish admitted the three bags containing meth were his, as well as the meth pipe. Kamish indicated he last used meth that morning.

A check on Kamish’s driving record indicates his privilege to drive in Minnesota is revoked.
