Man allegedly made threats

TRUMAN — A Truman man is facing a felony charge in Martin County.

Keith William Mercier, 38, has been charged with making threats of violence, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the complaint:

On Dec. 1, a Truman police officer received a report of domestic assault in the 300 block of North Central Avenue in Truman. When the officer arrived at the scene, he observed Mercier speaking with other law enforcement officers who had arrived earlier.

The officer spoke with a 28-year-old female who said she was upstairs in her bed when Mercier came in. She said Mercier was trying to be sexual with her and she was not interested. She indicated Mercier threw her on the bed, face down, and attempted to touch her.

The woman said she told Mercier no and wiggled away. She said she then called a friend to come over.

She said Mercier said he was going to blow up the house and also blow up her old trailer.

The officer then spoke with a 26-year-old female, who said the first woman had called her and told her what happened. She said that when she arrived she called Mercier out. She indicated she was in the doorway and Mercier shoved her out of the way and she got a bruise on her left shoulder and arm.

The officer took a picture of the woman’s bruise. The woman also indicated that Mercier said he was going to blow up the house and the first woman’s old trailer.

The officer then went outside to speak with Mercier.

Mercier indicated he and the first woman had been fighting since the previous night. Mercier said he was trying to make up with the first woman, and denied saying he was going to blow up the house. Officers observed Mercier hitting himself in the face during the conversation.

Mercier was placed under arrest and seated in the back of the officer’s squad car. When handcuffed, Mercier said he needed to be taken to the hospital because he was going to kill himself.

During the drive to the hospital, Mercier said he was going to blow his head off in front of the woman, and continued to say he was going to kill himself.

Upon arrival at the emergency room at the hospital, Mercier began to yell obscenities and again said he wanted to kill himself. Mercier became disorderly with officers, requiring officers to take him to the ground.

Officers later transported Mercier to the Martin County jail. During the drive to the jail, Mercier said he did push the second woman, and continued to deny he said he was going to blow up the house.
