Ballet returning to Opera House

FAIRMONT — The Continental Ballet Company of Minneapolis will present its production of “Sleeping Beauty” at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Fairmont Opera House.

Four local dance students from Borchardt’s Dance Company and Dancin’ Plus will be involved in the production.

The Continental Ballet Company was founded in 1988 by Riet Velthuisen, a native of Holland who danced with the Dutch National. The company is dedicated to providing opportunities for children and families to experience the art of classical ballet through performances, classes and community activities.

The ballet “Sleeping Beauty” has been staged by Riet Velthuisen using the original music by Tchaikovsky and the addition of some of Mrs. Velthuisen’s original choreography. In this classic children’s fairy tale, Princess Aurora has a spell cast on her that has put her to sleep for 100 years. She can only be awakened by a kiss from her true love. The ballet will show the celebration upon her awakening.

Tickets for Continental Ballet Company can be found at fairmontoperahouse.org or by calling (507) 238-4900. Students of Borchardt’s Dance Company and Dancin’ Plus are free for this show with a paying adult.
