BLUE EARTH — Republican Jim Hagedorn of Blue Earth claimed a primary election win over state Sen. Carla Nelson of Rochester on Tuesday.

Hagedorn will face Democrat Dan Feehan this fall.

In U.S. Senate races, Democrat incumbents Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith scored easy primary victories. The same was true for their Republican challengers Jim Newberger and Karin Housley. Newberger will face Klobuchar in the fall; Housley will square off with Smith.

With 99 percent of the precincts reporting, Hagedorn had 60 percent of the vote to Nelson’s 32 percent. Steve Williams ran third with 5 percent. Hagedorn is making his third try to win a seat in Congress.

Feehan won 83 percent of the vote against a lone opponent. Colin Minehart received 17 percent.
