Local man facing felony drug count

FAIRMONT — A Fairmont man is facing a felony charge in Martin County.

Adam Louis Poyzer, 38, has been charged with drug possession in the fifth degree, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the complaint:

At 3 p.m. Feb. 21, a deputy with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office was advised by jail staff that Poyzer, who is currently in the Martin County Jail, requested that his roommate bring his medication to him at the jail.

When the roommate arrived, he was carrying a white paper bag from a local pharmacy. Inside the bag were four prescription bottles of medication all prescribed to Poyzer, as well as three small plastic bags that each contained a white crystal type substance inside. The deputy took custody of the bags and tested the substance, which tested positive for the presence of meth.

The deputy then spoke with Poyzer in the booking room of the jail. The deputy read Poyzer his rights and Poyzer agreed to speak with him. During the conversation, Poyzer initially denied any knowledge of the meth, saying it was possible someone put it in the bag to get him in trouble.

As they continued to talk, Poyzer eventually said he found the three bags of meth in the hallway of his apartment building. He stated he thought it belonged to his neighbor whom he tried to take it to, but the neighbor was not home. He said he brought the meth to his apartment and put the bags in the medication bag because he decided it should not be left in the open.

Poyzer believed this to have happened on about Feb. 13 through Feb. 15. On Feb. 22, the three bags were entered into evidence.

Poyzer is currently being held in the Martin County Jail on a parole violation for a separate offense.
