Savewize on its way out
FAIRMONT — About 1 p.m. Wednesday, the entire staff at Savewize in Fairmont exited the store. Shortly after, signs stating that the store was closed for inventory appeared on the business’ entry doors at Five Lakes Centre, but there has been no visible activity at the location.
Although details are sketchy, mall manager Dahmon Gullord said a new tenant soon may rent the site.
“It’s still kind of vague,” he said. “We don’t have anything concrete yet.”
Gullord has had limited communication with the mall owners who had been operating the Savewize store, and they indicated a new tenant soon will be taking over.
“It’s not going to be empty, but the product line is going to be more toward the furniture side,” Gullord said. “What it sounds like they’re going to do is have a liquidation company come in and liquidate what they don’t normally sell, and then start bringing in their own merchandise.”
Calls to the mall owners in Brooklyn, N.Y., were not returned, and Gullord could offer no dates or details about the potential new tenant.
“Savewize is temporarily closed. They will be having a sale, but we’re waiting until the new company is able to come in and begin the liquidation process,” he said.
Savewize opened Oct. 1, 2017, at Five Lakes Centre, taking over the location of the JCPenney store that closed in June 2017.
