Comedian Lee making return

People looking for a fun, warm and — best of all — free evening of entertainment can’t do much better than to attend Laff for Life on Saturday at the Fairmont Opera House.

For the second year in a row, Options Pregnancy Center will host comedian Robert G. Lee as he provides a fun night of family-friendly laughs to be enjoyed by all. Center director Bob Charnecki was able to give a brief description of the benefit, the reason behind it, and just why Lee is coming back again.

“Our purpose is to help people learn a little bit more about the Center, especially if they don’t know about it,” he said. “It’s pretty much a night of comedy, with about a 10-minute infomercial about the Center. It’s just enough so that people can understand what we do and why we do it, and if people want more information, we’re around afterwards too.”

“We help about 150 women a year, not just from Fairmont, but from Blue Earth, Jackson, Madelia and the surrounding area,” he added.

As for Lee himself, he is well-known in the entertainment industry and also known as Hollywood’s top warm-up comic. He is a veteran of more than 1,500 episodes of various TV shows. He also has written many Veggie Tales videos and has released seven comedy videos.

Part of Lee’s popularity is due to his particular brand of humor. Lee is 100 percent clean and family-friendly, combining his Christian worldview with a Monty Python sensibility. He can be found on YouTube.

According to Charnecki, Lee’s style and personality made him popular when he came to Fairmont last year, and people were immediately eager to see him return to the area.

“We just had so many positive comments and people asking if we could have him back,” Charnecki said. “I like him, and it’s not like he does a canned 40 minutes of comedy. He’s new and fresh, and a number of people want to invite friends this time around.”

Charnecki again noted that the event is free, but that tickets are required in order to make sure there is enough seating.

“The only thing we ask is that people get tickets because there are limited seats at the Opera House,” Charnecki said. “But the tickets are free, and people can pick them up at the Center, or if they call we can hold them at the door for them. We will ask for a donation, but we really just want people to know about us.

“We’re going to give away a bunch of door prizes,” he continued. “Hawkins Chevrolet has a car detail coupon, there’s a TV, and a very expensive electric toothbrush. There’s also a quilt, and other items. It’s going to be informal and a lot of fun.”

He said there will be refreshments in the Footlight Lounge afterward, provided by Lakeview Methodist Home of Fairmont.

The show begins at 7 p.m. Saturday though doors will open at 6:15 p.m. Tickets can be obtained at Options Pregnancy Center, located at 322 E. Blue Earth Ave. in Fairmont, or by calling (507) 238-2330.
