Hands-free law-engage in cellular phone or video call — Robert A. Kohl, 44, of Peever, S.D.; fined $135.

Wireless communications device-engage in cellular phone or video call — Dustin A. Lyons, 33, of Welcome; fined $135.

Driving after revocation — Chance D. Wohlers, 32, of Welcome; fined $285.

Dean R. Kotewa, 35, of Fairmont was convicted of domestic assault-intentionally attempts to inflict bodily harm on another; sentenced to jail 90 days, stayed 89 days for one year, credit for time served one day, one year supervised probation, complete domestic abuse batterers intervention program and follow all recommendations, no alcohol/controlled substance use, random testing, remain law-abiding, complete chemical assessment, follow recommendations of evaluation, obtain permission from agent before leaving the state, follow all conditions set forth in the probation agreement, follow all state and federal criminal laws, contact probation agent within 72 hours if charged with a new crime; are in contact with law enforcement; if change address, employment, or telephone number, cooperate with search of person, residence, vehicle, workplace, property, etc. by probation officer, sign releases of information as directed, don’t use/possess firearms, ammunition, or explosives.

Matthew M. Shater, 29, of Fairmont received a statutory stay of adjudication on a felony charge of fifth-degree controlled substance possession-not small amount of marijuana; fined $1,110, sentenced to jail 15 days, credit for time served 15 days, five years supervised probation, obtain permission from agent before leaving the state, complete chemical assessment as directed by supervising agent, follow all recommendations of evaluation, cognitive skill training as directed by supervising agent, no alcohol/controlled substance use, no alcohol/controlled substance possession, random testing at the request of probation or law enforcement, obtain employment, maintain employment, follow all conditions set forth in the probation agreement, follow all state and federal criminal laws, contact probation agent within 72 hours if charged with a new crime; are in contact with law enforcement; if change address, employment, or telephone number, cooperate with search of person, residence, vehicle, workplace, property, etc. by probation officer, sign releases of information as directed, don’t use/possess firearms, ammunition, or explosives. Additional charges of disorderly conduct-offensive/abusive/noisy/obscene, and possession of drug paraphernalia, were both dismissed.
