Pianist performs Billy Joel and Elton John
Phil Thompson, a pianist from Woodbury, will perform at the Red Rock Center for the Arts (RRC) at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19. He will be playing music by Billy Joel and Elton John in his tribute repertoire. Thompson has performed at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, the MGM Grand in Macau, and the US Open Tennis Tournament in New York, and on cruise ships in Australia, New Zealand, the Caribbean, and Alaska. Advance tickets are available at Hy-Vee in Fairmont or the Red Rock Center. The cash cocktail bar opens at 6:30 p.m. Adult and student tickets are $15 and $8 respectively.
Chubb House open for Sunday tours
The Chubb House will be open for house tours from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20. Stop in to learn more about this historic home, and the man who had it built in 1867 for his family, Dr. Orville P. Chubb. It was the first brick home built in Martin County and is the last standing brick building in Martin County. The house was built out of bricks made from the clay found on the banks of Buffalo Lake. Blue Earth Quilters to have meeting on Monday
The second meeting of the Blue Earth Valley Quilters will be at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 21 in the Blue Earth Area High School Media Center. The meeting will begin with introductions and show and tell. Lynn Vogel will present a trunk show of bags she made. Participants in the Oxbow Tote bag sewing class will show their progress. Following the meeting, Lynn will vend fabric samples. Dues for the 2024-25 program year are $5. Visitors are welcome. Blue Earth Valley Quilters is organized under the umbrella of the Blue Earth Area School District’s Community Education Program. They meet on the third Monday of the month, at the BEA High School, with no meetings in December or July. The meetings generally are about an hour long. BEVQ is a group that welcomes quilters of all interests and abilities. Programs include demonstrations, Trash to Cash, speakers, and the annual August Quilt EXPO. Library piecing together Lego Club for kids
The Martin County Library of Fairmont invites community youth to partake in their Lego Club at 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 21, at the library, for children in grades K-6. Attendants are encouraged to come and bring a friend. All supplies and Lego pieces will be provided. There is no fee to attend, and pre-registration is not required. The Martin County Library of Fairmont invites local teenagers, and ‘tweenagers’ to attend the Teen/Tween After Hours event at 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at the library. Participants can enjoy activities, food, socialization, and more fun. There is no fee to attend, and pre-registration is not required.
