CREST Lunch & Learn Monday in Fairmont
It’s important as we get older to keep our minds sharp as well as our bodies. Everyone should have a desire to keep their cognitive skills intact as they go into their golden years. The next CREST Lunch & Learn will take place 11 a.m. Monday, July 8, at the CREST office, 820 Winnebago Ave. in Fairmont. The program will be presented by Joyce Peterson of CREST and she will speak on the topic “How To Build A Better Brain.” A salad luncheon will be served after the presentation along with a cool summer dessert. If you would like to attend this event, please RSVP the CREST office at (507) 235-3833. This activity is open to seniors in Martin County and a free-will donation is always welcome.
Prairie Star Quilters plan Monday meeting
The Prairie Star Quilt Guild will meet on Monday, July 8, at Fairmont Evangelical Covenant Church, 901 Woodland Ave. in Fairmont. The quilt board will meet at 12:30 p.m. and the regular membership meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m. There will be discussions for completing plans on our Quilt & Garden Tour on July 13. Fundraiser Tuesday in Ledyard
Ledyard Fire Department will hold a free-will fundraiser Tuesday, July 9, in Ledyard, Iowa. The fire department will purchase a new pumper truck. The department’s current truck was built in the 1980s. Time for a change. The truck is being purchased with donations from around the community. Johnny Holm Band will perform 7:30-10:30 p.m. Tuesday on the main street of Ledyard. Proceeds will all go toward the new pumper truck for the fire department. Everyone is welcome to attend, hear some wonderful music and support this great cause.

The following area students graduated during the 2023-2024 academic year at Alexandria Technical & Community College. They were honored during a commencement ceremony held May 8 in Alexandria, Minn.: Fairmont — Caleb Benes, carpentry diploma (spring 2024), Jacob Moeller, carpentry diploma (spring 2024); Granada — Alexander Spear, carpentry diploma, (spring 2024); Welcome — Shawn Oberbeck, welding technology diploma (summer 2023).
