Early Risers set Wednesday meeting
Early Risers Kiwanis Club of Fairmont will meet Wednesday, Oct. 4, at the Ranch Restaurant, 1330 N. State St. in Fairmont. During Pastor Appreciation Month, Kiwanis is taking the opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge the ministers of our community with a special free breakfast. All pastors are invited to come, we serve breakfast at 6:30 a.m., then the meeting will start at 6:50 a.m. Kiwanis is an amazing service group in the Fairmont area and they would love an opportunity to show you how much they appreciate all you do for the Fairmont area. Kiwanis Early Risers looks forward to an opportunity to celebrate the local ministers of our wonderful community. The public is invited. Featured speaker will be Courtney Logwood, Tara Eisenmenger and Peter Engstrom from the Human Rights Committee and will talk about the history of the human rights commission in Fairmont and what actions the committee is working on today in Fairmont. The public is invited.
St. John's UCC plans Oktoberfest
St. John's United Church of Christ will hold an Oktoberfest pork loin supper from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, at the church located at 301 N. Main St., Fairmont. The menu will include: roast pork loin, mashed potatoes and gravy or German potato salad, green beans, applesauce, dinner roll, pie, coffee or apple cider. The cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 4-12, while children, ages 3 and under, eat for free. Take-outs are available by calling (507) 235-3500. They will also have gift basket prizes. Everyone is welcome to attend.
CER to offer upcoming community activities
Fairmont Community Education & Recreation (CER) will offer two upcoming community activities. First, Afterschool STEM Activities class for youth in grades 2-6, will be held 3:30-5 p.m. Monday-Wednesday, Oct. 9, 10, 11, 16, 17 and 18, at the Southern MN Educational Campus (SMEC) building, 115 S. Park St. in Fairmont. Students will be participating in a hands-on activity using science and engineering to create and gain an understanding of how things work. Activities provided will help develop critical thinking skills along with planning and logic with a fun game to play. Each challenge becomes increasingly more difficult. Pre-registration is required so please register ASAP. Also, Soothe Those Achy Joints class will be held 6-7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, online via Zoom. Do you have joints that ache, a knee or hip or back? Whether you have arthritis, bursitis or just creaky joints, this workshop is for you. Joint lubrication exercises are quite simple and easy to do yet produce rather remarkable results by helping to free your joints of pain. They'll discuss which nutrients are needed to help keep your joints healthy. Wear loose comfortable clothing. The fee is $29. Registration closes Oct. 5.
