September free meal Sunday at SJV

St. John Vianney Hope Café will be serving their free September meal beginning 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17. All are invited to join them for a delicious dinner at St. John Vianney Church, 901 S. Prairie Ave., Fairmont. If you are unable to join them in person due to lack of transportation, please let them know so they can see about delivering a meal to you. Firearm safety training planned this month

A fall course for Minnesota firearm safety training has been scheduled. No pre-registration is required. Registration will take place 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19 in the cafeteria at Fairmont Elementary School, 714 Victoria St. in Fairmont. The classes will be 5:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 19 through Sept. 28. The course consists of a combination of classroom training, self study, a written exam, as well as a practical field exam. The field exam will be held 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 at the Fairmont Trap Club. Attendance is mandatory for ALL sessions. Total cost for the class will be $15, with $7.50 paid at registration and the remaining $7.50 before the completion of the course. All students must be at least 11 years old as of Sept. 19. Students under 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian and have a copy of the student's birth certificate for registration and additional course information. Students will receive a Firearm Safety Certificate upon satisfactory completion of the course. It is required that all individuals born after Jan. 1, 1980, have a Firearm Safety Certificate to purchase any type of hunting license in Minnesota.
