Service Club to hold Tuesday meeting

Fairmont Service Club will meet noon Tuesday, July 11, at the Best Western Hotel in Fairmont. The program this week will feature Amy Detloff, Supervisor – MN Senior Health Options/Elderly Waiver Services for Faribault and Martin Counties. Red Rock plans activities next week

Red Rock Center will host a free concert featuring Terry Klein, Iowa Hall of Fame inductee, beginning noon Tuesday, July 11, at 222 E. Blue Earth Ave. in Fairmont. Complimentary hot lunch available while they last. Klein will perform as well at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont. Red Center for the Arts will also hold a free summer art project for kids to be held 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, July 12, at the shelter house at Ward Park, Fairmont.

Human Rights meeting Thursday in Fairmont

The Human Rights Committee of Martin County will meet 11 a.m. Thursday, July 13, at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 102 N. Park St. in Fairmont. Following the guidelines from the nationally respected Minnesota Department of Human Rights, they strive to encourage respect and maintain dignity for all the residents of Martin County. Everyone is welcome to join them.

Library to host Allen Eskens on Thursday

The Martin County Library in Fairmont is honored to host bestselling author, Allen Eskens, for a book talk and signing beginning 6 p.m. Thursday, July 13, at the Fairmont Library, 110 N. Park St. in Fairmont. Books will be available for purchase at the event. His books have been translated into 26 languages. Eskens has a journalism degree from the University of Minnesota and a law degree from Hamline University. After law school, he studied creative writing in the M.F.A. program at Minnesota State University-Mankato, as well as the Loft Literary Center and the Iowa Summer Writer’s Festival. This program is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant provided by the Traverse des Sioux Library Cooperative, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund. Martin Luther to offer summer volleyball camp

A summer volleyball camp for boys and girls going into grades 3-9 will be held July 17-21 at Martin Luther High School in Northrop. Grades 6-9 will attend all skills camp from 8:30-11:30 a.m. each day, while grades 3-5 will attend from noon to 1:30 p.m. each day. The cost for grades 6-9 is $50 and $30 for grades 3-5. The camps will be led by Michaelah Petrowiak, 2021 MLHS alumna and Kambria Steinhaus, 2022 MLHS alumna. College News

Carter Davis of Fairmont recently graduated and was awarded an associate’s degree in criminal justice and a certificate in law enforcement skills following the 2022-23 school year at Central Lakes College with campuses in Brainerd and Staples.
