CER to offer upcoming community activities

Fairmont Community Education & Recreation (CER) will offer 2 upcoming community activities. First, Grand Prix For youth entering grades 3-6 will be held 9-11 a.m. Monday, June 12 to Friday, June 16, at the Southern MN Educational Campus, 115 S. Park Street in Fairmont. Design your own racetrack. Group will use engineering techniques to work together and build a new indoor or outdoor racetrack with ramps hairpin curves and speedy straightaways. Then we use remote control cars and race the track. Next, Archery for grades 5 through adult will be June 13, 14, 15, 16 and 19 in the south gym at Fairmont Jr/Sr High School. Archery I will be held 1-2 p.m. This course is for youth and adults who are interested in archery but don’t know where to begin. Students will learn about: safety, equipment, shooting fundamentals, marksmanship and sportsmanship. Archery II will be held 2-3 p.m. This course is for youth and adults who have completed Archery I and would like to work on their shooting fundamentals and marksmanship. It will include scoring and challenging archery games. The shooting distance will be increased as the archer improves their accuracy. For any further questions, call CER at (507) 235-3141.

FAL Breakfast learning session Tuesday

Fairmont Area Life (FAL), where we work and promote together, will hold a breakfast learning session Tuesday, June 13, in room 012 at the Southern Minnesota Education Campus, 115 South Park St. in Fairmont. Business networking will begin at 8 a.m. with the learning session getting underway at 8:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided. Everyone is invited to come and learn how you can collaborate with them by submitting information on your events to be included on the FAL Facebook page and website, learn about blogs and if you haven’t already, experience the FAL website fairmontarealife.com. Help spread positivity in Fairmont.

Historical Society offers program

A Martin County Veteran presentation featuring the military experiences of Truman Kittleson will be shown 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, at the Pioneer Museum in Fairmont. There is no charge. The public is invited to attend.

Fairmont City Band to hold concert

Fairmont City Band will perform its first summer concert of the season beginning 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, in the band shell at Sylvania Park in Fairmont. The band will perform marches, show tunes and standard concert band literature. Intermission entertainment will be provided by guitarist Harry Stout playing 60’s and 70’s pop tunes. IHD committee will operate the concession stand, with proceeds going toward Interlaken Heritage Days activities. Rehearsal will be held 6 p.m. Tuesday at the band shell. City Band is always looking for new members. Those who have completed 10th grade may join. There are no tryouts or auditions. Any cancellations will be announced at 5 p.m. over local radio stations.
