Church on the Lawn in East Chain

“Church on the Lawn” services will start up again beginning 10:30 a.m. Sunday, June 4, at East Chain Evangelical Free Church, located three miles east of the village of East Chain. The service includes live band worship, bible teaching and wonderful kids program. Prior to the service, donuts and coffee will be served at 10 a.m. Bring your lawn chair and a friend. The public is welcome.

CREST new volunteer training on June 6

There will be a training session for anyone that’s interested in becoming a CREST volunteer and the opportunity to meet seniors and brighten their lives. The training will be held 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, at the CREST office located at 820 Winnebago Ave., Suite 2, in Fairmont. CREST volunteers provide “Live In Home Services” such as friendly visiting, telephone reassurance, home helper, minor home repair, transportation, and respite care. Your time with area seniors will make a difference in their lives and enhance yours as well. The need for volunteers at CREST continues to grow, so if you’re looking for something interesting to do and touch the lives of those you help please give the CREST office a call at (507) 235-3833 and request a volunteer registration form. Fill it out and then bring it to the volunteer training on June 6.

CER to offer upcoming community activity

Fairmont Community Education & Recreation (CER) will offer an upcoming community activity. De-Age Your Brain class will be held 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, online via Zoom. Current research shows lifestyle and diet have a big effect on how the brain ages. Cognitive function, which covers all aspects of perceiving, thinking, and reasoning, can improve. And the good news is no matter what your age there are things you can begin to do today to improve how quickly and effectively brain cells communicate with each other. They’ll discuss which super foods reduce the damaging effects of toxins and inflammation on the brain and which nutrients are great for memory, attention, processing information and reducing stress. You will lean simple, easy to implement strategies to help your brain stay healthy and alert. Class fee is $29. For any further questions, call CER at (507) 235-3141.
