Help sought for placing of flags

Fairmont American Legion Post 36 will place American flags on deceased veterans’ graves Saturday, May 27, at Lakeside Cemetery, Fairmont. If you would like to volunteer, plan on meeting at the Lakeside Cemetery office by 7 a.m. All ages are welcome to assist and will be grouped with map readers at the office. Coffee and rolls for all who participate that morning will be served afterwards at the American Legion Post, 300 Downtown Plaza in Fairmont. Volunteers will be needed to retrieve the flags the day after Memorial Day.

Memorial Day events set in Fairmont

Memorial Day events will be held Monday, May 29 in Fairmont. A flag-raising by the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will be held 9:30 a.m. at Veterans Park. Following the ceremony, the parade will start at the park heading south on Prairie Avenue then turning right on Winnebago Avenue and finishing at the Veterans memorial site. The Memorial Day program by American Legion Post 36 and VFW Post 1222 and their auxiliaries will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. at the Martin County Veterans Memorial, 507 Winnebago Ave., Fairmont. The guest speaker will be James Olson. The Girl Scouts will conduct the wreath-laying ceremony. Everyone is invited.

Upcoming bridal shower in Fairmont

An open house bridal shower for Autumn Fischer, bride-to-be of Jon Koester from Goldfield, Iowa, and daughter of Jared and Angie Fischer of Truman, will be held 1-3 p.m. Sunday, June 4, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Family and friends are cordially invited.
